Did you know that 13 of our 24 species of bats in California are
species of special concern? Cal Trans and other agencies are working
hard to preserve these insect eating mammals. Bats benefit farmers by
eating insects that eat crops, and rain down gold - in the form of
guano - a primo-deluxe fertilizer. Bat house kits are available
on-line.
Here, a silvery hoary bat eats a blend of insects.
